Most people come to counselling because they know something needs to change, but they are not sure how to make it happen.

They may be having the same arguments over and over, feeling disconnected from their partner, struggling with trust, experiencing difficulties with intimacy or wondering why the same challenges keep finding their way back into the relationship.

Most of us were never taught how to have healthy relationships. Instead, we learned from our families, our experiences and the relationships around us. Sometimes those lessons serve us well and sometimes they can make relationships much harder than they need to be.

Hi, I’m Joy Ball, a couples and relationship counsellor based on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. I provide Couples Counselling and Individual Relationship Counselling, supporting people to improve communication, rebuild trust and create healthier, more connected relationships. For nearly two decades, I have sat with couples in the moments no one prepares us for.  The silence after an argument. The exhaustion of repeating the same fight. The quiet fear that you are drifting further apart even though you are still trying.

My approach is practical, supportive and focused on helping you identify what needs to change so you can move forward with greater confidence. I believe that most people are doing the best they can with the tools they have. Sometimes we simply need a different perspective, practical support and a safe space to work through what is happening.

Relationship counselling is not about assigning blame. It is about understanding what is getting in the way and finding a path forward that feels right for you and your relationship.

Consulting Days: Monday -Tuesday – Wednesday – Thursday Fees: $175.00 per 60 minute session

My Approach

It all began with an idea… how can I help couples communicate in a way that reduces reactive behaviours and helps them respond in a clearer, calmer, more connecting way?
My approach is practical, realistic and focuses on what works in real relationships.

Why I Do This Work

There is something incredibly rewarding about seeing a couple move from frustration and disconnection to understanding and hope. Knowing I have played a small part in helping people strengthen their relationship is why I continue to love the work I do.
